Potassium carbonate, white crystalline powder. The density is 2.428g/cm3. Melting point 891 ºC, decomposition at boiling point, relative molecular weight 138.21. Soluble in water, the aqueous solution is alkaline, insoluble in ethanol, acetone and ether. It has strong hygroscopicity and can absorb carbon dioxide and water when exposed to the air. It should be sealed and packed. Hydrate has one water, two water and three water. The aqueous solution of potassium carbonate is alkaline. Insoluble in ethanol and ether.
