Calcium stearate, its chemical formula is C36H70CaO4, CAS NO.:1592-23-0.
It can be used as a heat stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride and as a lubricant for many kinds of plastic processing, mold release agent, etc.
In rigid products, it is used in combination with salt-based lead salts and lead soap to increase the gelation rate. Also used in food packaging, medical devices and other soft films and devices that require non-toxic properties.
It can also be used as a halogen absorber for polyethylene and polypropylene to eliminate the negative effects of residual catalysts on colour and stability. Used as a plasticiser in rubber processing to soften natural and fully formed rubber with little or no effect on vulcanisation.
It is also used as a lubricant for polyolefin fibres and moulding plastics, as a thickening agent for greases, as a waterproofing agent for textiles, as a smoothing agent for paints, and as a plasticiser in the manufacture of plastic records.
It is also used as a halogen absorber in polyethylene and polypropylene; as a lubricant and release agent for phenolic and amino thermosetting plastics; as a thickening agent for grease; as a water repellent agent for waterproof textiles; as a smoothing agent for paints and as a lubricant for pencil cores.
Food grade calcium stearate is used as an anti-caking agent. Calcium stearate is also used in the production of pencil cores and in the pharmaceutical and fragrance industries.
